The Senior Citizen Audit Program was created by the Rutgers University Board of Governors to permit retired New Jersey residents, age 62 or older, to audit courses on a space-available, noncredit basis. There are no tuition costs for auditing courses. Senior auditors do not receive academic credit for audited courses.
Undergraduate courses offered by the Department of Jewish Studies are open to auditors at the discretion of the professor. It is not guaranteed that a course will be open to senior auditors.

Approximately 2 - 3 weeks before the start of each semester, a finalized list of all courses available for senior auditing will be sent out to anyone who has inquired about auditing courses.
Below, you will be able to access the list of available courses for the upcoming semester. Although the courses may be listed as open, that does not guarantee that the instructor is accepting senior auditors. Please contact the Jewish Studies Program Coordinator, Stephanie Ulm, to confirm if a listed course is open to senior auditors.
Please do not reach out to the instructors directly until you have confirmed that their course is open for auditing.
The department asks all auditors to remember that our primary commitment is to our students’ education. Therefore, once you have received confirmation that a class is open or auditing, we ask auditors to kindly observe the following general guidelines:
- Please reach out to the professor directly to confirm you are auditing their class.
- Please confirm with the professor where auditors should sit in the classroom.
- Please confirm with the professor what auditors are expected to prepare for class.
- Once in class, please wait to give answers, ask questions, or offer comments until the professor invites auditors to do so.
